Johnson holds a degree in Atmospheric Science from the University of North Carolina at Asheville. Additionally, she was also the emcee for Senator Barack Obama’s Special Task Force on Climate Change in 2007 and worked on Washington DC’s Joint Center Advisory Committee on Climate Change 2008-2013. She served on many AMS organizations, The Advisory Board, Eyes on the Environment and Station Scientist. She served as Chair of the American Meteorological Association’s Board of Enterprise Communication where she facilitated science information between researchers, academia, government, and public sector groups. She was also the first Meteorologist hired by Sinclair Broadcast Group when the company started its first newscast in 1991 at WBFF TV in Baltimore. before joining the 7News-WJLA TV Weather team. She started her meteorologist broadcasting career at the Weather Channel and worked for WABC in New York City, WMAR in Baltimore and WRC in Washington, D.C. Johnson is an Emmy-award-winning meteorologist who has been forecasting weather in the Washington D.C. She joins the 7News' On Your Side evening team of Jonathan Elias, Alison Starling, Michelle Marsh and Scott Abraham.Įarlier this year, Johnson was inducted into the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences "Silver Circle." This prestigious award marks 25 years or more of achievement in the broadcast industry. She has been the 7News Morning Lead Meteorologist since 2016. Veronica Johnson has been named the next chief meteorologist for 7News' First Alert Weather Team, the station announced Monday morning. He is also an active member of the Central Park Conservancy, supporting numerous programs to protect and preserve the park.Ī life-long Boston Red Sox fan, Lee enjoys playing golf and tennis in his spare time. He was recently acknowledged for his work with the foundation. Lee's dedication to community service includes his avid support for the Pediatric Cancer Foundation, hosting their annual Walkathon in Riverside Park each spring. Upon graduation, Lee was hired full time at WTVH-TV in Syracuse. At the same time, he filled in on-air at WSTM-TV in Syracuse, New York, contributing award-winning coverage when the historic "Blizzard of 1993" hit Central New York. He began his meteorological career in 1993, forecasting for utilities and ski areas with a private weather service and for US and Canadian radio stations. While in college, he interned at WCVB-TV and WHDH-TV in Boston, and at the National Weather Service office in Concord, New Hampshire.
